Tuesday's Devotional for May

Tuesday's Devotional Prayer

Heavenly Father,

Our Lord and Creator,
grant me the heart
to seek Your wisdom
above the noise of this world.

Teach me to value Your counsel
above my own understanding.

In Jesus' name, Our Lord and Saviour, Amen.

Weaponizing Moral Progress

to Erase His Authority

Spring breathes warmth into the earth, reminding us that creation moves according to a design fashioned by Our Lord and Creator. The gentle renewal of the season speaks to the more profound renewal we seek when we pursue wisdom and clarity in our walk of faith. It is easy in times of uncertainty to mistake noise for direction or ambition for guidance. Yet the proper pursuit of wisdom demands more than careful calculation—it demands surrender to the One whose wisdom is a divine gift, not to be measured by human standards.

Our Lord and Saviour assured His disciples that wisdom, a deep understanding of His will and the ability to apply it in life, would be provided when needed, saying, “For I will give you a mouth and wisdom, which all your adversaries shall not be able to gainsay nor resist” (Luke 21:15). This assurance was not given merely as a comfort in the trial, but as a foundation for life. It is not the brilliance of the mind that brings clarity but the posture of the heart that leans into Our Father’s instruction. To seek wisdom is to relinquish our impulse to control outcomes and walk by faith, guided by the divine insight that sees beyond the surface of circumstances.

The wisdom Our Lord offers is not passive. It is active and influential, equipping believers to stand firm even when the world is confused or resistant. Wisdom and clarity are not ornamental virtues; they are necessary weapons in a world that often prizes appearance over truth and sentiment over discernment. In the Wisdom of Solomon, the writer confesses, “Wherefore I prayed, and understanding was given me: I called upon God, and the spirit of wisdom came to me” (Wisdom of Solomon 7:7). Prayer is not simply a ritualistic plea but a powerful tool, a genuine calling forth from the depths of the soul for the wisdom that only Our Lord and Creator can bestow. The one who prays with such earnestness is not asking merely for answers but for transformation—for a heart molded to perceive and follow our Lord and Savior's will.

The tension faced daily by those who seek wisdom and clarity is not always a matter of choosing between good and evil but often between good and best, between expedient and enduring. Would you rather choose to forgive instead of hold a grudge or choose to serve others instead of seeking personal gain? As the Apostle Paul prayed for the believers in Colossae, so too should we pray for ourselves: “That ye might be filled with the knowledge of his will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding” (Colossians 1:9). It is not enough to possess facts or to master strategies; the believer must be shaped inwardly by a wisdom that discerns the will of Our Lord and walks steadfastly in it.

Such wisdom does not promise an easy road. There will be seasons when clarity seems obscured, and the immediate path is clouded by doubt or opposition. Yet the faithful heart leans not on circumstance but on the assurance that Our Father’s wisdom transcends every confusion. The believer must cultivate patience, for it is in the daily choosing, the small obediences, the quiet prayers that wisdom takes root and blossoms. Patience is not a hindrance but a necessary virtue in pursuing wisdom.

The acquisition of wisdom becomes a relationship—an ongoing dialogue between the soul and its Creator, where guidance is received as a gift of grace.

As we move forward, let us set aside our frantic searches for worldly solutions and quiet our hearts before Our Father. Let us ask not merely for direction but for the wisdom to trust His leading, even when it seems contrary to our instincts. Let us be willing to wait when waiting is required, to move when movement is commanded, and to remain steadfast when the road is difficult.

The Apostle Paul reminds the faithful in Ephesus of this precious gift, writing that he prayed “that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him” (Ephesians 1:17). In this spirit, we find our call not simply to make wise decisions but to become wise people—people whose lives reflect the clarity and purpose of Our Lord’s wisdom at work within us.

As the flowers of May bloom, may you also move in the ordered beauty of wisdom given above. May you be known not for the sharpness of your intellect or the boldness of your ambition but for the purity of a heart guided by Our Lord and Saviour, whose wisdom is everlasting and whose counsel will never lead you astray.
